How much do you know about candle safety?
Did you know that candles are used in 7 out of 10 U.S. households? Approximately 35% of candle sales occur during the Christmas/Holiday season, meaning the other 65% of candle sales are not related to Christmas/Holiday gifts. Candle purchasers say they view candles as an appropriate gift:
for the holidays (76%)
as a house warming gift (74%)
a hostess/dinner party gift (66%)
a thank you (61%)
as an adult birthday gifts (58%)
With the use of candles on the rise, it's even more important to follow safe candle burning rules and tips such as:
Trim that wick! Trim candle wicks to ¼ inch each time before burning. Long or crooked wicks can cause uneven burning, dripping or flaring (trimming your wick also helps to extend your candles burn time!)
Never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire.
Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts before re-lighting
Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets
Remember to always follow directions and warning labels on your candles. These are just a few safety tips. Statistics and tips are referenced from the National Candle Association. Visit their website for more information:
