Continuing on in with our “Why Soy Wax? Top 5 Reasons” Series, this week is about our Environment.

Reason #2: Environment

People are becoming more aware of and concerned for the environment. They are also becoming more knowledgeable about the environmental benefits of using soy wax. Soy wax is made from the oil of soybeans, a vegetable. Studies have shown vegetable-based waxes are naturally biodegradable. This contributes to less waste in our landfills.

There is the misconception that because vegetable-based waxes are biodegradable, that they are also water soluble. This isn't true, by definition, a wax is not soluble in water. Soy wax can be easier to remove from materials and other surfaces than paraffin wax. Even though they are not water-soluble, the clean up of spilt vegetable-based waxes with soap and water tends to be much easier than a petroleum based product.

Next week we will conclude our “Why Soy Wax? Top 5 Reasons” Series. Hint: Reason #1 also has something to do with the Environment, any guesses?
